WILL THE ELDER SCROLLS VI: SENTINEL BE AN XBOX EXCLUSIVE?! PLAYSTATION FANS MAY BE LEFT WAITING!

NEXT GENERATION GAMING | EXCLUSIVE OR MULTIPLATFORM?

The wait for The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel has already tested the patience of RPG fans everywhere. But as excitement builds around Bethesda's next massive fantasy adventure, another question is creating just as much conversation:

Will Sentinel be an Xbox exclusive, or will PlayStation gamers get to explore Tamriel, too?

After Microsoft's acquisition of Bethesda, many fans assumed the next mainline Elder Scrolls game would be exclusive to Xbox consoles and PC. However, Microsoft's changing approach to exclusivity has made the situation considerably less predictable and despite being asked directly, Xbox leadership still isn't giving gamers a definitive answer.

XBOX CEO SIDESTEPS THE EXCLUSIVITY QUESTION

During Gamescom 2026, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma was asked about Microsoft's approach to exclusivity and whether The Elder Scrolls VI would be an Xbox console exclusive.

Her response offered little reassurance to PlayStation fans.

Sharma explained that exclusive experiences remain important to Xbox's strategy, stating:

"Every platform needs some form of exclusive experiences and content."

When the conversation turned specifically to The Elder Scrolls VI, however, she offered a much shorter response:

"It's a beautiful game."

That's hardly a confirmation of exclusivity, but it certainly doesn't rule it out.

Sharma's comments suggest Xbox wants to maintain exclusive experiences while balancing those decisions against the company's broader business interests. <Cite refs={["turn284769search0","turn284769search3"]}/>

EVEN TODD HOWARD ISN'T CONFIRMING THE PLATFORMS

Bethesda Game Studios director Todd Howard has also been asked about the possibility of The Elder Scrolls VI becoming an Xbox exclusive.

In a July 2026 interview, Howard was asked whether the game or Fallout 5 would skip PlayStation.

His response?

It was too early to comment on platform plans.

That answer leaves the door open to multiple possibilities. Bethesda has not announced a complete platform list, and there is no official confirmation that a PlayStation version is in development. <Cite refs={["turn284769search2","turn284769search1"]}/>

MICROSOFT'S EXCLUSIVITY STRATEGY HAS CHANGED

Remember when Microsoft's acquisition of ZeniMax Media brought Bethesda and its legendary franchises under the Xbox umbrella?

The acquisition raised an immediate question: Would future Bethesda games remain exclusive to Microsoft's ecosystem?

Microsoft has since released several previously Xbox-associated games on competing platforms, demonstrating that its approach to distribution can vary from one title to another.

But that doesn't mean every upcoming Xbox game will automatically arrive on PlayStation.

Sharma has emphasized the importance of exclusive experiences, and Xbox has identified upcoming titles such as Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution as console exclusives.

The company's strategy appears to involve balancing exclusive content with opportunities to reach a wider gaming audience. <Cite refs={["turn284769search0","turn284769search4"]}/>

WHY PLAYSTATION FANS WANT A PIECE OF SENTINEL

The Elder Scrolls franchise has built an enormous following across multiple generations and gaming platforms.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim became one of the most successful role-playing games ever released, reaching players on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and eventually Nintendo platforms.

Naturally, PlayStation fans want to experience the next chapter without purchasing another console.

For Microsoft, however, keeping a major Bethesda release exclusive could provide a powerful reason for gamers to enter the Xbox ecosystem.

There's a business decision on both sides: exclusivity could strengthen Xbox's platform appeal, while a multiplatform release could expand the potential audience and software sales.

Which direction will Microsoft choose?

NGG FINAL THOUGHTS: WILL SENTINEL CROSS THE CONSOLE DIVIDE?

At this point, the honest answer is that we simply don't know.

Xbox has not confirmed that The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel will be exclusive to Xbox and PC. It has also not confirmed a PlayStation release.

With the game still in development and no release date or complete platform announcement, Microsoft has time to make its decision.

One thing is certain: this is a major franchise, and the platform decision will have a significant impact on where millions of gamers can experience its next chapter.

PlayStation fans are hoping for good news. Xbox fans may be hoping for another major exclusive.

NOW WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!

Should The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel be an Xbox exclusive, or should Bethesda bring the game to PlayStation as well?

Would you purchase an Xbox just to play the next Elder Scrolls?
