CANADA TO THE RESCUE?! BIOWARE PETITION CLEARS 500 SIGNATURES AS FANS FIGHT TO SAVE MASS EFFECT!

Could Canada become the unlikely hero in the fight to save BioWare? Following Electronic Arts' decision to close the legendary Canadian studio and cancel early development on the next Mass Effect, fans are taking their fight directly to Canada's government.

A new House of Commons petition, e-7898, is calling on the Canadian government to provide financial support that could help BioWare regain its independence from EA—including securing the rights to its intellectual property.

The petition has passed the 500-signature threshold required to be presented to Parliament, with recent reports putting support at more than 1,600 verified signatures.

CANADA COULD HAVE A ROLE TO PLAY

The petition asks Ottawa to help fund an independent BioWare, protect Canadian creative businesses, and preserve the studio's contribution to the country's cultural legacy.

Meanwhile, the separate global #SaveMassEffect campaign is approaching 300,000 signatures, demonstrating just how strongly fans want the franchise to continue.

And there's another encouraging development: BioWare co-founder Trent Oster has expressed support for the movement, saying the campaign makes him want to reunite some of the original developers.

BUT THERE'S ONE BIG OBSTACLE: EA

Even with growing support, there is no guarantee Canada will step in with funding. More importantly, Electronic Arts still owns BioWare and the Mass Effect intellectual property. Any revival requiring those rights would need EA's cooperation.

Passing the signature threshold does not force the government to purchase the studio or compel EA to sell. It does, however, move the issue into Canada's parliamentary petition process.
